Homicide investigators have charged a 22-year-old man in the shooting death of Bradley McPherson, a 28-year-old who his family says made the fatal mistake of standing up to a bully at a Christmas Eve party in Surrey in 2011.
Russell Bidesi, who was also charged last year with allegedly killing 31-year-old Kacey Rogers in his home two months after McPherson?s death, has now been charged with a second count of second-degree murder.
?Bradley? was not involved in criminal activity and is described by his mom as a fun-loving family man,? said Sgt. Jennifer Pound of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT).
?Bradley?s homicide was random, cold and for no other reason than he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.?
In a written statement, McPherson?s mother Susan Simning described the morning she got a knock on her door and found two of her son?s friends outside.
?I asked where is Brad? I was told he had been shot and was dead. My screams of anguish and sobs where heard by Brad?s younger sister and she came running from her room to be told her brother was dead,? Simning wrote.
?Hours of hell where endured as family and friends were called to our home awaiting details from the police.?
She described her son as a protective type who knew the importance of respecting women and was doing just that the night he was killed.
?From his hearty laughter to his enormous bear hugs and devotion to family, no parent should suffer the loss of a child and there will always be an empty spot in our heart,? she said.
Pound said there is no link between McPherson and Rogers? deaths other than that Bidesi is charged with both of them. He appeared in court in Surrey Monday afternoon.
